WHAT WE DO
At THE SAINT ANN'S REVIEW we like a good argument between our covers. In our forthcoming issue, for instance, a given story mocks the holy aura surrounding pregnancy; another sanctifies it. (Our word choice here may be unfortunate, as we are a distinctly secular publication.) We like a lyrical poem to sound lyrical and a narrative, poem or prose, to tell a story. Bearing witness? Writing sheer fabrication? As John Synge once wrote (we paraphrase), "Every [piece] should be as fully flavored as a nut or apple."
HOW WE DO IT: THE BALANCING ACT TSAR selects from hundreds of submissions sent from the four corners of the globe (and then some) to bring you two issues annually of fine prose and poetry and art. Our magazine is distributed by Ingram to bookstores nationwide. We show up at trade fairs, hold readings around New York City, and nominate works for annual prizes. In these respects, we plant a foot in the world at large. Our other foot lands squarely within the community of Saint Ann's School. We have published stories and poems and art by alumni. We have benefited from student and alumni internships, published and/or interviewed author parents, and so on. For a very partial list of those members of our community who have contributed their time and efforts, please click HERE. THE SAINT ANN'S REVIEW would not be entering its tenth year of existence without generous support from Saint Ann's School and from our readers.
