TWO PICTURES OF A ROSE IN THE DARK

In the dark you make
the softest sounds
holding a rose
by the window –
I have known you
to touch each thorn
in the dark.

***

I know that feeling, the one
that comes like a flash
and goes like a flash. It
is a flash that comes and goes.

I know that feeling. There
you are, the window lit
by an incandescent rose.

It is like a chord
buried by softer sounds
– we feel it.
